You should be able to slip two fingers underneath any strap to ensure that it is not too snug. Try to pull the gear over your dog’s head to make sure that it is secure.
Treating of nylon harness requires minimal effort. Nylon is very durable, easy to wash and does not require ironing. Clean the nylon harness with a damp cloth. When washing, use an ordinary powder and water no warmer than 50°. This material dries fast and does not take much space to store.
As for a leather harness, wipe it down with a clean, damp cloth. To remove more stubborn dirt use a little water, mild soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush. After cleaning, wipe the harness down with a clean dry cloth. Do not dry leather equipment on the radiator or near the heater. Only air dry is recommended. Prevent from straight sun rays during the dry.
A badly fitted harness can cause discomfort to your dog. If it is too tight, it will restrict your pet’s motions. Moreover, the harness will not let a dog use the muscles correctly. It can cause skin rubbing especially under the armpits. But if the harness is too loose, your canine can maneuver out of the harness which causes an increased risk of the dog either running off or getting into an accident.
Finding a well-suited harness for your dog depends on different factors. That includes whether your pet pulls on the lead, his/her size and shape, what the fur is like and his/her own individual likes and dislikes. For example, if your canine doesn't have thick fur, a harness with felt padding will help feel comfortable. The long fur can get caught up in the velcro straps if they are present in the harness. Leather is a hypoallergenic material that doesn’t cause skin rubbing or irritation. But many dog owners prefer nylon harnesses for easy and quick washing.
